Steel Grades and Types

Carbon Steel (Mild, Medium, High Carbon)

1.A36 – Common mild steel used in structural applications.
2.C1018 / C1020 – Mild carbon steel, good for forming and welding.
3.1045 – Medium carbon steel; higher strength, used in machinery.
4.1095 – High carbon steel; strong and hard, used for blades and springs.

Structural Steel (EN / BS / ASTM Standards)

10. S235JR / S275JR / S355JR – European structural steels for beams, frames, etc. 11. ASTM A992 – High-strength steel used in I-beams. 12. Q235 / Q345 – Chinese equivalents of structural carbon steels. Steel Surface Finishes

Alloy Steel

5.4140 – Chromium-molybdenum alloy; tough, wear-resistant. 6.4340 – High-strength alloy steel, used in aircraft and automotive. 7.8620 – Case hardening steel, used in gears and components

Tool Steel

8. O1 / A2 / D2 – Oil, air, and wear-resistant tool steels; used in cutting tools, dies, molds. 9. H13 – Hot work tool steel; used for die-casting molds.

Steel Surface Finishes

Hot Rolled Finishes

Used in construction, heavy-duty structures, and industrial use. 1. Hot Rolled (HR) – Dark, rough, and scaly finish; low cost, used in structural steel. 2. Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled (HRPO) – Surface scale removed; slightly smoother and rust-resistant.

Cold Rolled Finishes

Smooth, accurate, and used in precision or aesthetic applications. 3. Cold Rolled (CR) – Smooth, bright, and flat; ideal for applications requiring tight tolerances. 4. Skin Passed – Very light cold rolling to improve flatness and surface quality.

Galvanized & Coated Finishes

Corrosion-resistant surfaces, common in construction and appliances. 5. Galvanized (GI) – Zinc-coated by hot-dip method; silver spangled surface. 6. Galvannealed (GA) – Zinc-iron alloy surface; duller than GI, better for painting. 7. Electro-Galvanized (EG) – Thin zinc layer via electroplating; very smooth and uniform. 8. Aluzinc / Galvalume – Aluminum-zinc coated; highly reflective and corrosion-resistant. 9. Pre-Painted Galvanized (PPGI) – Color-coated galvanized steel; used in roofing, cladding.

Decorative or Treated Finishes

For aesthetic or specialized technical use. 10. Blackened Steel / Black Oxide – Matte black or dark gray oxidized surface. 11. Blued Steel – Blue-gray oxidized finish, common in firearms and tools. 12. Brushed Steel – Linear texture applied for aesthetic appeal. 13. Powder Coated Steel – Colorful, durable finish using electrostatic powder coating. 14. Sandblasted or Shot-Blasted – Matte, clean surface with increased grip. 15. Polished Steel – Mirror-like surface, often used in decorative parts.
